Landrover with a difference

In the Arb team we have a landrover with a difference - it has a winch fitted to the front.

Not only can it pull itself out of difficulties, but it is very helpful when we need to pull larger trees over in awkward situations - for instance where it is very important to make sure a tree falls in exactly the right line.

Fitted with a box tipping back it is an ideal piece of kit.

Nicholsons Arb Team in Action

The Nicholsons Arb Team were recently asked to fell two large and over-mature poplars in the garden of one of our clients, and we managed to get a short video of one of the trees as it went down.
The operation went very smoothly, overseen by Fennel the Forestry Dept labrador.

We have now planted more than 70 specimen trees in the garden, as well as more than 300m of 'instant hedge' (a mixture of beech and native mix), so the removal of these two poplars has, we think, already been compensated for!

The Nicholsons Landscapes team are also working in the same garden.

A Sad Farewell!!

Yes, we are selling plants at full speed now as the bare rooted hedging season is upon us.

As Mike said, the Forestry team are out there getting muddy boots by planting trees! However, not only do they plant trees but sometimes it is necessary to cut them down. This is what has happened to our beloved sycamore tree at the entrance to our nursery.

The sycamore went through several consultations with our qualified Arboriculturalists starting with a machine called a resistograph to get a Picus Tomography.

(Please visit the NEWS page on our main website to view forester Adam Quant's report and photos)

The report states the results and provides photos to show why the decision to fell was taken.

It is sad when a tree has to be taken out but they are living just like us humans and when the time comes.........!!
